Rounding the first corner…Handling the first curve
As MJ and I travelled to Quebec City last week for a weekend of ministry, I suggested to her that it felt like RTC had rounded its first corner. At least when you look in the rear-view mirror, you can no longer see the starting gate.
But how many know you can’t look in the rear-view mirror too long?
Upon our return home, RTC had to handle its first curve – whether or not to cancel its first RTC Canada event. After months of planning and advertising, some of the churches who had registered were unable to attend for very legitimate reasons. As a result, a decision was made to cancel the event.
There may have been a time in my life when I would have viewed this as a defeat, but there may be advantages to turning 50! I actually saw this as a chance to re-think, re-evaluate and re-work RTC Canada.
This is where I could use your help through feedback.
1) Is a forum for pastor’s and church leaders best facilitated on a Saturday or a week night?
2) What is the best time of year to run such a forum?
3) How do we get people to understand that a forum to discuss change in the Canadian church is not just for churches looking to change, but also for churches who have begun to work through the process of change?
Your comments to these questions, or anything else, would be welcomed.
By the way, as we were handling this curve, I received confirmation that Vanguard College is going to sponsor an RTC Alberta on Friday October 2, 2009! This means we just rounded another corner!!
Just a reminder that my blog’s over the next three weeks will come to you from Africa. I will try my best to find internet access as often as I can to keep you informed.
Until next time from Africa…
