Monday Musings – August 10/09
One year later…
It was one year ago this weekend that we resigned to a congregation that we grew to love dearly over 13 years. I have decided to include as part of my blog today my journal entry from this past Saturday (08/08/09).
“I write in my journal today on the one year anniversary of my now infamous 08/08/08 journal entry. Ironically, I sit in the very spot (the deck @ 227 Guillaume) where Psalm 90:17 became a reality in our lives. ‘May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands.’ One year later, I sit amazed at the goodness of God over the last 12 months. It was one year ago that MJ and I resigned Evangel Pentecostal Church. One year later, I write in my journal as a Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada missionary. God has indeed shown His favor and established the work of our hands for us!!! A year ago, we stepped out of our comfort zone into uncharted waters. What a wonderful peace comes when you walk in obedience. What an awesome feeling to be able to say that we do not have one regret!”
I would be less than honest to tell you that there have not been moments of challenge in the past year. It is not easy to say so long to people that you have grown to love. Nor is it easy to leave the comfort zone of a steady pay check and begin a walk that is totally dependent upon your faith in God. As we made the decision to step out of the boat, MJ asked God for two things: 1) That God would not remain silent, and 2) That God would provide our needs. As a couple we can testify that God has been faithful on both counts. Specific promises from His Word have become foundational in our new ministry, and God has kept our bank accounts in the black for a full year (although there were a couple of occasions that red was in sight!).
We thank God for His faithfulness and the faithfulness of so many who have supported us in prayer and with words of encouragement. We also want to thank God for the churches and individuals who have contributed to RTC (www.reinventingthechurch.com) through our PAOC missions account. Thank you so much!!!!
Our 2009 calendar is almost completely book with ministry opportunities. Now as we look toward 2010 plans are in the works that will include Africa, Ukraine and Vietnam. You never know where you will end up when you step out of the boat into uncharted waters!!!
Yours with a passion for the church!
Until next time…
