Monday Musings – 15/02/10
I hope you were able to join me in watching 23 seconds of Canadian history last night. What a thrill to watch Alexandre Bilodeau ski the moguls of Cypress mountain and win Canada’s first Olympic gold medal on home soil!!!!
As impressive as the gold medal win was, what impressed me even more was Alexandre’s humility and tenderness in the midst of victory. He attributes a lot of his success to the inspiration of his older brother Frédéric who has been handicapped by cerebral palsy. Any one who was not touched by the words and emotions that Alexandre expressed following his gold medal performance needs to check his or her pulse to make sure they are still alive!!!
Alexandre Bilodeau reminds us that there is generation of young men and women in Canada who are able to model the values that will help our nation continue to be “true north, strong and free”. His selfless moment in the spotlight, was not for him alone but for all his fellow teammates who will compete in the remaining days of the games.
If you want to paint a picture of what Canada is all about, use Alexandre’s attitude as the canvas. Whatever opinion you have of our younger generation, don’t paint them with a broad stroked brush, use last night’s victory as an example of the fact that Canada has some incredible young men and women that can lead us into the future.
I believe in the generation that is coming behind us, they are truly golden!!!!!
Until next Monday…
