Monday Musings – 27/06/11
This week, RTC handed out its first ever certificates to people who had completed the ‘Teamwork Makes the Dream Work’ seminar here in Kitwe. I had no idea that a simple piece of paper would bring such joy to the faces and hearts of Zambian pastors!
The men you see pictured in this blog shared stories of how God used the seminar to strengthen their ministry. One pastor, from a remote area of Zambia, shared how for years he has done all the work of the church himself. As a result of ‘Teamwork Makes the Dream Work’, he has begun to delegate responsibility and now finds himself much more rested in ministry. Another talked about how his leadership has moved from being a group to a team. I was amazed at his response when I asked him what he saw as the difference between a group and a team. He suggested a group was based on individuals who had no ownership of the vision. They discuss and leave a meeting but have not captured anything. Groups pretend to be involved because of a position but are not captured by anything. Teams, on other hand, own the vision; they are there for each other and for the pastor. Teams carry the vision with you.
I think you would agree with me that these men deserve certificates. How grateful I am that pastor’s across Zambia and in other parts of the Continent are getting it! They are gaining an understanding of practical leadership principles that will impact their life and ministry.
Thank you to all of those who are making it possible for us to be in Africa! I had no idea that a simple piece of paper would bring such a smile to a pastor’s face, just as the pastor’s have no idea how fulfilling it is for me to see them grow in their leadership capacity.
Tomorrow I am off to the Congo. I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers this week as I will face the challenges of a new country, as well as a demanding ministry schedule at their country wide Missions Fest.
MJ is staying behind so that she can make final preparations for our return to Canada. Oh Canada, our home and native land, MJ and I will place our feet on your soil July 7th to once again see family and friends! What a privilege is ours to call two countries home – Zambia and Canada!
Until next Monday…
Taking risks for Kingdom impact!
