Pots and pans movement…

If you watch the news from anywhere in Canada, you will know that our beloved City of Montreal has been flooded by nightly protests for 33 days.

The protest has expanded to include other pot banging groups of people from all walks of life and ages.  Yes, you heard me right, thousands of people are bringing their children on to the streets with pots, pans, and wooden spoons from their kitchens, banging them up and down the streets.  Four nights ago, about eight pot banging people walked by my home.  Two nights later that group of eight grew to hundreds.  Last night, I had to take a different route home because the downtown core of our historic city of Longueuil was besieged by a protest.

Amidst the frustration and concern being caused by these protests and the annoying sound of banging pots and pans, I find myself asking a number of questions.  What is making this movement grow so quickly?  Why is it beginning to attract all ages?  Why is it getting worldwide attention?  Although I do not have all the answers to these questions, I can tell you that this student protest, pot banging group of people has a cause, passion and loads of emotion.

As always, during these times I turn my attention to the church.  Yesterday, the church worldwide celebrated Pentecost Sunday.  We remembered the birth of the early church in Jerusalem over two thousand years ago.  The early church had a cause, passion and loads of emotion.  That movement spread quickly, attracted all ages and gained worldwide attention.  We, the 21st century church, need to ask ourselves if we have lost focus of the cause.  Has our passion waned?  Have we lost our emotional grip of grief and anguish for a lost world?  If people are not ashamed to bang pots for a cause, why should the church be ashamed to declare the power of the resurrected Jesus Christ!!!!!

I am going to ask you to find six minutes and eleven seconds of your time to watch the following video from the 4/14 Movement.  It was given to me, about nine months ago, by one of our incredible African leaders in the nation of Kenya.  I believe it has been preserved for such a time as this.  Just press on this link It’s Time To Wake Up and begin watching.  It is time for us to wake up and reclaim a generation!

Until next Monday…

Don (from the pot banging city of Montreal)
