Never Underestimate God’s Ability…
MJ left the house early this morning, heading to the Chintange Creations Sewing School where she will begin the second session of sewing classes. Today marks the progression of the school to include all three levels. I am incredibly proud of her!
Last week I overheard her making follow-up phone calls to students who had registered. One call was in English, and on another, suddenly, MJ broke out in the French language. As I listened, while doing my own work, I was struck with the thought of how God continuously orders our steps.
Almost thirty-four years ago, I asked this beautiful French Canadian women to marry me. Born into a French home in Quebec, her parents had the foresight to have MJ receive her education in the English language. From the first time I laid my eyes on her, to the present, I have watched over and over again how God has used MJ in both languages.
As youth pastors in our first church in Oshawa, Ontario, a good number of French speaking Canadians moved into the area to get work during a large construction boom. Marie-José and a true father of the faith, Rev. R.A. Bombay, started a French Bible study in our very English, Ontario church. Of course, when we pastored Evangel Church, Montreal for thirteen years, MJ’s French proved to be an incredible asset in the church and community.
Now today, we live in Pretoria, South Africa. Who would have thought that MJ would get to use her French here? South Africa is a melting pot of African cultures. People from all across the Continent, including those whose first language is French, find their way here in hopes of a better life. The Chitenge Creations sewing school reflects that melting pot of African culture. Once again, God uses MJ’s ability to speak French to welcome all nations to the school.
Never take for granted how God orders your steps. In thirty-four years of marriage and ministry, there has never been a place where God did not use MJ for Kingdom purposes in the French language. Never underestimate God’s ability to use your giftings. Always remain open to His sovereign direction in opening doors of opportunity in places where you never dreamed God could use your abilities.
Until next time…
